Though many couples cite “communication difficulties” as the motivation to seek counseling, there are as many different causes of this as there are couples, and counseling can (and should) be adapted to fit each individual couple’s dynamic and needs.
Rewarding love and partnering stems from the ability to find a balance between feeling secure as an individual and as a member of your partnership. My goal in couples counseling is to help you each find a pathway to feel safe in vulnerability again, allowing genuine openness, connection, and comfort to flourish between you.
Couples counseling is most successful when you are able to dedicate at least a few months to finding clarity and awareness about systemic patterns in the relationship that contribute to strife, and to rediscover the deep connection that brought you together in the first place. Often, the big “issues” that a couple might report are actually a symptom of longstanding, individual and interpersonal patterns that have developed over a lifetime of relational experiences. It takes time to develop the courage to face these issues and start to understand your own patterns. From a place of understanding, we can work together to help you both begin to heal your hurt and feel safe in connection again.
I believe that with the right support, every couple has the capacity to develop new skills and shift patterns to find a new, more satisfying, compassionate and rewarding path together.

Insurance does not usually reimburse for couples counseling. I accept cash, check, and major credit cards. I have some sliding scale slots available for those who are committed to counseling, but unable to make it work financially. If this sounds like you, please contact me and I’ll provide more information for you.
